Whenever you can, pay a little less fierce attention to macronutrients and a bit more attention to nourishing your body and mind through a beautiful plate of food. Visual appeal matters because what your eyes take in goes to your brain and tells your digestive system to prepare for delicious, healthful ingredients.
Spending just a couple of minutes creating a pretty dish provides a sense of satisfaction. It involves taking pride in preparing a meal, feeding yourself lovingly instead of purely for fuel. Choose different colours, textures and flavours. Nature has given us different coloured fruits and vegetables because they deliver a variety of vitamins, minerals and other elements such as antioxidants.
Make at least one meal time per day something a little more special. Put screens aside, have some favourite music on in the background, drink water while you’re preparing your meal and touch, feel and appreciate the ingredients you have assembled.
