Enjoying a cup of warm chamomile tea makes for a lovely bedtime ritual. The daisy-like flower is known for its relaxation-inducing qualities and it is considered a mild tranquiliser or sleep inducer. It contains an antioxidant named apigenin which binds to receptors in the brain that help to decrease anxiety and initiate sleep.
You can also sweeten your chamomile tea with a teaspoon of organic, raw honey. While you sleep, your brain consumes lots of energy and it derives that energy from liver glycogen, the sugar stored in the liver. Raw honey before bed means you stock up your liver with glycogen reserves for a good night’s sleep.
Top tip! Don’t forget to brush your teeth after drinking this bedtime tonic.
